From Roxanne:
Jessica Strickland takes nice wedding photographs. How does she manage to make it so crisp and vivid (the photographs)? She has a lot of
prevalent techniques in her photographs, such as the lines from the blurred backgrounds (another prevalent thing in her photographs,
which is good because it takes away the distraction you would otherwise have with the background clear). Another thing I noticed was the
way she took them…diagonally most often, which also leads you to follow the lines frequently (from the guard rails, the benches…)

She must have Photoshop actions to bump up contrast and saturation.
The angle thing is cool, particularly as she designs her own albums/books, so it’s not like for a newspaper that would look off (trust me I had a client complain about angled shots once
Jess and Gary Fong love to shoot wide open, so the shallow depth… maybe they even make it more so in Photoshop??
I’ve just noticed when I switched to my Canon full frame sensor camera, that since the sensor is bigger, I get more film-like depth of field… smaller camera sensors keep too much in focus.
Maybe something like Nik Color Effects Pro… you can even save that kind of look these days in Aperture or Lightroom as a preset.
It’s just great to see some work with a ’style’ to it…and she’s all around talented, not trying to hide crappy work behind a supposed style.
